Maroussi continued their impressive season with an emphatic victory over Olympiakos that saw the Reds fall from the top of the table.

Three days after seeing off Panathinaikos for the Euroleague, Maroussi managed to defeat the other major force in Greek basketball, Olympiakos with an 82-74 score at home on Sunday.

The result means that Olympiakos and Maroussi are now level on points at the second spot, but Olympiakos maintain a better head-to-head record by just one point, as it had beaten Maroussi by nine points at home.

Panathinaikos are now alone on top after their comfortable 75-63 victory over Panellinios away on Sunday, banishing the memories of their two losses to Partizan and Maroussi for the Euroleague.

After the match, Panathinaikos coach Zeljko Obradovic made a clear statement that dispelled all rumours suggesting he might quit Panathinaikos.

In the other games, AEK scored an stunning 33-point victory over visiting Panionios behind closed doors, as AEK served a penalty for fan riots during the match with Olympiakos.

AEK triumphed 89-56 to steer clear of the relegation zone. It was the second straight win for the team under new coach Minas Gekos.

Aris defeated bitter local rivals PAOK 69-59 at home, but it was Kolossos that moved up to the fifth spot, one point behind Panellinios, after the Rhodes club thrashed visiting Trikala 82-58.

In the weekend's other games, Olympia Larissas took a leap towards their survival with their 87-78 home win over Ilisiakos, while Peristeri came from behind to defeat Kavala 73-68 in Athens.

Olympiakos coach Anders Christianson resigned on Sunday after the shock 3-2 loss of his team at PAOK that practically discarded any chances the champions could have had of finishing first in the regular season.

The Reds announced that the team will now be coached by Christianson's assistant, Yiannis Kalmazidis, who on Monday had his first training session as the head coach of Olympiakos.

Christianson cited personal reasons for his departure, in the official statement communicated on Monday, but it is well-known that his relationship with the board of the volleyball club had not been at the highest possible level over the last few weeks.

Panathinaikos maintained their two-point lead at the table by defeating visiting Iraklis in an easier than expected fashion.

The Greens won 3-0 and with four games left before the play-offs all they really need to do to clinch the first place is to avoid a 3-0 or 3-1 defeat at EA Patras.

The Peloponnesian side kept up the chase of Panathinaikos with their 3-1 win over bottom side Foinikas Syrou at home.

Kifissia stunned Aris with their 3-1 win in Athens. The Thessaloniki club are now level on points with Lamia at the fifth spot, as Lamia beat AEK 3-0.

On Monday Apollon Kalamarias beat Panellinios 3-1 to boost their chances for survival.
