Champions Panathinaikos almost surrendered a comfortable lead at the Olympic Stadium indoor arena but ran out eventual winners against Panionios with a 85-77 scoreline.
Aris needed overtime to beat Olympiakos in Thessaloniki. The fulltime score was level at 68-68 but the home side came out on top in the tight extra period and won 78-76.
The next games in the best-of-five series are on Tuesday.
