Greece had an emphatic entry into the 16th Mediterranean Games during the weekend as it secured five gold medals in rowing on the same day.
Out of the eight rowing events in Pescara, Italy, Greece managed to win five, while in the 15 previous Games over 58 years it had only managed a total of just one gold.
Yiannis Christou was the first one to earn a gold, winning the single sculls final.
Right after that it was brothers Apostolos and Nikos Goudoulas who won the coxless pair.
It was then the turn of the sport's two biggest names in Greece, Alexandra Tsiavou and Vassilis Polymeros, who both won the lightweight single sculls.
The Greek triumph was completed at the lightweight double sculls where Christina Giazitzidou and Triantafylia Kalamboka won by over five seconds.
Greece won some more medals in swimming in the Games that officially started on Friday. Greek swimmers won two silvers and one bronze in the first couple of days and look good for more to come.
Romanos Alyfantis finished second in the 200-metre medley, just like Angeliki Exarchou who won silver in 100 metres breaststroke.
The men's national team won bronze and broke the national record in 4x100 metres freestyle.
The team consisted of Yiannis Kalargaris, Andreas Zisimos, Apostolis Tsangarakis and Aris Grigoriadis.
Wrestling has also provided Greece with many medals in Pescara. Gievgkeni Pentorets won gold in the 66-kilogram category in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Theodoros Tounousidis and Panayiotis Papadopoulos were second in their categories in Greco-Roman wrestling and Constantina Lapou earned a silver in weightlifting.
Elsewhere, there were bronzes for Yiannis Spyridakis and Grigoris Anastasiadis in Greco-Roman wrestling and for Evangeli Chryssi and Panayiota Antonopoulou in freestyle wrestling.
After the first three days in Pescara, Greece is fifth in the medals table with six golds, five silvers and five bronzes.
