An Athens prosecutor has opened a probe on the B' Ethniki match between Ethnikos Asteras and Pierikos from November 15, after allegations it was fixed.
Pierikos won that game 2-1 in Athens, in a match that had suspiciously little action according to reports in the press, and the betting pattern on the game has risen suspicions.
In a weekend with no Super League action, as the national team was involved in the World Cup playoffs with Ukraine, the Ethnikos Asteras vs Pierikos match had an unusually high figure of bets on it, which reports placed at the sixth place in the world among major international games such as Russia vs Slovenia and Ireland vs France and exceeding that for the Greece vs Ukraine game, according to Betfair.
Last week Panserraikos president Petros Theodoridis stated on the radio that "there is at least one game per week that is fixed. When Ethnikos Asteras play with Pierikos and everyone sees what happens, why doesn't anyone do anything? Is it that hard for a prosecutor to intervene?"
The prosecutor did intervene and will likely summon Theodoridis first to testify.
