Sunday, August 12, 2007 : Striker signs three-year deal
Lomano LuaLuaCongo striker Lomana LuaLua has joined Greek champions Olympiakos, the club announced late on Saturday.

The former Portsmouth forward arrived in Athens on Friday to discuss personal terms and pass a medical.

Olympiakos have not made public the transfer they have paid for LuaLua. Reports in Greece suggest that Portsmouth will earn around 3 million euros but according to the English press, the fee is 2.8 million pounds (approximately 4.1 million euros).

The acquisition of the skilful forward ends Olympiakos's search for a player to replace Nery Castillo who left to the Piraeus club for Shakhtar Donetsk in a 20-million-euro deal.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp said on Saturday that he was confident that the Democratic Republic of Congo striker would be a big hit in Greece.

"Lua wants to move on, but I've no doubt he'll go away and be a great player for Olympiakos," said Redknapp.

"He will get to play in the Champions League by moving to Greece. He has been a top Premier League player and he'll be a top player for them."

The 26-year-old began his career with Colchester United before moving to Newcastle United in 2000.

He played 59 games for the Magpies before heading to Portsmouth in 2004 for whom he has scored 19 goals in 91 games.

The striker will earn around 1 million a year at the Greek champions.

Sotiris KyrgiakosMeanwhile, Olympiakos are also looking to strengthen their defence and are reported to be considering making a move for Greek international centre back Sotiris Kyrgiakos.

The 27-year-old is currently with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

If Kyrgiakos joins Olympiakos, it will be a controversial move as the defender spent seven years at their rivals Panathinaikos before moving to Glasgow Rangers, where he won the Scottish Championship and League Cup. The defender scored two goals in the cup final against Motherwell.
